# Derelict — ICV Kittiwake Dawn — room key

ICV Kittiwake Dawn lost power, then heat, then everyone. A cascade fault dropped the bus in the middle of a long haul and the crew could not bring it back. They gathered in the warmest room and waited. The ship has been at minus sixty for a long time.

Last log entry: Cpt. Okafor. Their trail runs through three rooms.

Hook: Moreau's mother filed a claim, and the company told her the ship was never lost.

## Upper deck

**1. Bridge**

Cold. Frost on every surface. Nav plot frozen on the last fix. Somebody wrote the numbers on the glass.
Log fragment (Nav): "Sent the mayday on the last of the capacitor. If anyone heard, they have not said."
Trail 1/3: A note taped to the console, signed Okafor: "If you are reading this, check the drive section (10, upper deck) before you trust anything in the log."

**2. Engineering**

Scram lever pulled and wired down so it stays pulled.
Hazard: the bus is one bad contact from live. Bringing power back brings everything back, including whatever tripped it.
Salvage: the fault. A single component, expensive, sabotaged. Fit a spare and the ship lives.

**3. Crew quarters**

Something moved in here — recently. Bunks stripped. One is made, tight, the way the service teaches it.

**4. Escape pods**

Dark. Emergency lighting only. Every pod still docked. Nobody got out.
Log fragment (pod panel): pods checked at hour 40, all present. Cpt. code. Nobody launched.

**5. Hangar**

Vacuum. Suit up. Shuttle still here, hatch open, seats empty.

**6. Armoury**

Rack half empty. The sign-out sheet stops mid-line.

**7. Life support**

New filters stacked by the door, still in their wrap.
Log fragment (Tech): "Reclaim froze at hour 30. Melting ice on the heater for water. The heater is for people."

**8. Cargo hold**

Manifest on the wall, half the lines crossed out in marker.
Salvage: perishables, perfectly preserved. A fortune in frozen produce for anyone who can get it to port frozen.

**9. Galley**

Table set for six. Frost on the plates.
Hazard: the crew, together, under every blanket aboard. They were breathing until quite recently.

**10. Drive section**

Fuel gauges at zero. The log says they were not.
Trail 2/3: A second log hidden behind a panel, kept by Okafor. It disagrees with the official one about one thing, and that thing is in the escape pods (3, lower deck).

## Lower deck

**1. Hangar**

Empty cradle. Scorch marks.

**2. Life support**

Water reclaim tank split; the deck is ice.
Hazard: frozen water reclaim. The tanks split; the ice is the room now.

**3. Escape pods**

These pods never launched either.
Trail 3/3: What Okafor's private log pointed at. It has been moved since the official log says this room was sealed, and only Cpt. Okafor knew.

**4. Lab**

One sample tray labelled and signed. The rest are blank.
Hazard: frost on every surface, thick enough to hide the floor. Grates, drops and open hatches are all the same white.

**5. Cargo hold**

Containers cut open, not unlocked.
