# Derelict — ICV Yarrow Drift — room key

ICV Yarrow Drift lost power, then heat, then everyone. A cascade fault dropped the bus in the middle of a long haul and the crew could not bring it back. They gathered in the warmest room and waited. The ship has been at minus sixty for a long time.

Last log entry: Cpt. Lindqvist. Their trail runs through three rooms.

Hook: Moreau's mother filed a claim, and the company told her the ship was never lost.

## Main deck

**1. Bridge**

Dark. Emergency lighting only. Consoles dark. One chair is turned to face the door.
Log fragment (Nav): "Sent the mayday on the last of the capacitor. If anyone heard, they have not said."
Log fragment (unsigned): "Whoever reads this: she was ours, and we kept her going as long as we could. Tell the company that much."
Salvage: a crew locker, still locked. A month's pay in hard chits and a photograph nobody is coming back for.
Trail 3/3: The bottom locker, its seal unbroken. Inside: Cpt. Lindqvist's recorder, with the last day on it, all of it.

**2. Cargo hold**

Straps cut. Whatever was lashed here left in a hurry.
Hazard: a ceiling panel hangs by its cables and one end is live. Anyone tall, or careless with a lamp, brushes it: a hard shock.
Salvage: perishables, perfectly preserved. A fortune in frozen produce for anyone who can get it to port frozen.

**3. Crew quarters**

Lockers open. Whatever was worth taking has been taken.
Hazard: the crew, together, under every blanket aboard. They were breathing until quite recently. Lifting the blankets lets the last pocket of air out: everyone here checks against the cold at once.
Log fragment, on a slate held in a frozen hand: "hour 58. still here. tell Moreau's mother"
Trail 1/3: A keycard on a lanyard by the door, Lindqvist's face on it. The door log says it last opened the drive section (4).

**4. Drive section**

Cold. The torch has not fired in weeks.
Hazard: frost on every surface, thick enough to hide the floor. Grates, drops and open hatches are all the same white.
Trail 2/3: The card's last door. On the wall in grease pencil, in Lindqvist's hand: "THE BRIDGE, BOTTOM LOCKER." That is the bridge (1).
