# Derelict — ICV Esker Drift — room key

ICV Esker Drift misjumped. The drive fired with the nav plot half-loaded and the ship came out somewhere with no stars in the right places. The crew rationed, then argued, then stopped. The drive is cold. The plot is still half-loaded.

Last log entry: Nav Kowalczyk. Their trail runs through three rooms.

Hook: The nav plates on the bridge show a planet in the wrong sky, and it has lights on the night side.

## Main deck

**1. Bridge**

Nav plot frozen on the last fix. Somebody wrote the numbers on the glass.
Hazard: the nav plot, if touched, tries to complete the jump. The drive answers, and whoever is aboard when it fires goes with it.
Log fragment (Nav): "Plot says we are eleven light-years from where the plot says we are. Both readings agree with each other."
Salvage: the nav core, holding a jump plot no charts contain. Worth a career to the right astrogator.
Trail 1/3: A glove on the deck just inside the door, Kowalczyk's by the name stitched in the cuff. The other one is in engineering (4).

**2. Armoury**

Cold. Frost on every surface. Rack half empty. The sign-out sheet stops mid-line.

**3. Medbay**

Dark. Emergency lighting only. Autodoc stopped mid-cycle. The patient is not in it.
Hazard: the lights come on when you enter and go out behind you. There is no automation on this deck. Anyone who falls behind is alone in the dark: roll for an encounter.

**4. Engineering**

Vacuum. Suit up. Panels off, parts sorted on the deck by someone who ran out of time.
Trail 2/3: Kowalczyk's other glove. Scratched into the bulkhead beside it at hand height: "THE CREW QUARTERS. DON'T." That is the crew quarters (6).

**5. Hangar**

Shuttle still here, hatch open, seats empty.

**6. Crew quarters**

Bunks stripped. One is made, tight, the way the service teaches it.
Hazard: a crewmember's tally scratched into every surface. Stare too long and you lose your own count. Anyone who reads it through loses an hour.
Log fragment (Cpl.): "Nobody sleeps. The stars are wrong and everyone checks them every hour to be sure."
Trail 3/3: Nav Kowalczyk is here, or what is left of them. The recorder on their suit is still running and covers the last day.

**7. Cargo hold**

Manifest on the wall, half the lines crossed out in marker.
Salvage: intact cargo, untouched; the crew were too disciplined, or too frightened, to open it.

**8. Drive section**

Cold. The torch has not fired in weeks.
Hazard: the drive core is cold but not empty. Charge is bleeding off as static; metal tools jump in your hand.
Log fragment (Eng.): "The core will fire once more. Once. Either we pick a direction or the ship does."
