# Derelict — ISV Oriel — room key

ISV Oriel went through a debris field that was not on the chart and came out the other side with holes in it. The air went in stages, one compartment at a time, and the crew moved forward ahead of it until there was no more forward. Six weeks, give or take.

Last log entry: Nav Tamura. Their trail runs through three rooms.

Hook: A distress beacon is still running. It is not the ship's.

## Upper deck

**1. Bridge**

Nav plot frozen on the last fix. Somebody wrote the numbers on the glass.
Log fragment (Nav): "Debris field not on any chart. Cpt. says ride it out. We are riding it out."

**2. Escape pods**

Dark. Emergency lighting only. One cradle empty. The rest still docked, cold.

**3. Life support**

Something moved in here — recently. Water reclaim tank split; the deck is ice.

**4. Hangar**

Cold. Frost on every surface. Shuttle still here, hatch open, seats empty.

**5. Lab**

One sample tray labelled and signed. The rest are blank.
Hazard: hull plate hanging by two rivets. Touch it and it goes, with whoever is holding it.

**6. Medbay**

Autodoc stopped mid-cycle. The patient is not in it.
Salvage: autodoc still charged. Two courses of trauma meds, one vial with the label scraped off.

**7. Cargo hold**

Straps cut. Whatever was lashed here left in a hurry.
Salvage: forty crates of machine parts, twelve of them worth carrying. One is marked with a shipping line that no longer exists.

**8. Engineering**

Scram lever pulled and wired down so it stays pulled.
Log fragment (Eng.): "Patched the aft seam twice. It will not hold a third time. Told her. She knows."

**9. Crew quarters**

Lockers open. Whatever was worth taking has been taken.

**10. Galley**

The coffee machine is still warm. The rations are gone.
Log fragment, handwritten: "If you find this, the pod took Reyes and the kid. Do not look for us in the hull."
Trail 1/3: A note taped up at eye height, signed Tamura: "If you are reading this, check the hangar (4, lower deck) before you trust anything in the log."

**11. Drive section**

Fuel gauges at zero. The log says they were not.

## Lower deck

**1. Cargo hold**

Containers cut open, not unlocked.
Hazard: loose cargo drifting in vacuum. Anything not tied down moves when the ship does.

**2. Escape pods**

Every pod in this bay still docked.

**3. Life support**

New filters stacked by the door, still in their wrap.
Hazard: cracked O2 line. Sparks here mean fire, then no fire, then nothing at all.
Trail 3/3: Where Tamura's private log pointed. Under a deck plate, in a sealed sample bag: Nav Tamura's recorder. It covers the last day, all of it, from someone who was there.

**4. Hangar**

Vacuum. Suit up. Empty cradle. Scorch marks.
Trail 2/3: A second log hidden behind a panel, kept by Tamura. It disagrees with the official one about one thing, and that thing is in life support (3, lower deck).

**5. Engineering**

Reactor cold. Tools laid out for a repair nobody finished.
