Mapsmith for Foundry VTT
A button in the Scenes tab. Pick a town, dungeon, ship or building, pick a seed, and Mapsmith draws the map and makes the scene: the grid lined up, and a GM-only journal with every numbered place or room, who is there, what is in it, and a hook. With Mapsmith Pro the scene also gets its walls, doors and lights, so it’s ready for vision and fog of war when it opens.
The Penlow Crypt (seed saltmarch) as the module builds it, drawn in Foundry 14 on Foundry’s public demo world: 239 walls, 16 doors, 5 lights.
Install
- On Foundry’s setup screen, open Add-on Modules and press Install Module.
- Paste this into Manifest URL at the bottom and press Install:
https://bulkhead.bananafest-destiny.com/mapsmith/foundry/module.json - Launch your world, open Game Settings → Manage Modules, tick Mapsmith and save.
Foundry 13 and 14. It isn’t in Foundry’s package list, so it installs by that link.
Make a map
- As the GM, open the Scenes tab and press Mapsmith map.
- Choose the map: a town (hamlet to city, with or without water), a dungeon (crypt, fallen keep or old mine, three sizes), a ship (shuttle to station, intact or derelict), or a building (inn, temple, shop and more).
- Keep the seed it offers or type your own, and press Make the scene. A ship or building with more than one deck or floor gets a scene for each.
The same seed always gives the same map, in Foundry, in Mapsmith on the web and in the Obsidian plugin. The journal’s first page has the block that opens it there.
Walls, doors and lights
Mapsmith Pro is $6 once on itch, and the same key works in Foundry, Obsidian and the web version. Paste the address of your itch download page, or the key at the end of it, into Configure Settings → Mapsmith → Mapsmith Pro key. Every map you make after that comes with its walls, doors and lights placed. Without a key, everything else works.
Mapsmith is free and open source (MIT): source, README. The module goes online only to check a Pro key; the maps are drawn in your browser and saved in your world. The maps are lines and fills drawn by code, with no generated images; the code was written with AI. Made by Bananafest Destiny. Foundry VTT is its owner’s trademark, named only to say what Mapsmith works with.
